ABB's ACQ580 Intelligent Pump Control
ABB ACQ580 Intelligent Pump Control
ABB's ACQ580 series frequency drives have a built-in IPC (Intelligent pump control) function for controlling up to eight frequency driven pumps. This feature allows one frequency drive to control the others by means of a link between them, and each one that is part of the system can be controlled.
The use of several pumps allows for greater efficiency at lower consumption than one large pump with reduced speed. They also allow system redundancy in the event of a failure. This feature uses a variable frequency drive to turn pumps on/off depending on the job, with speed being controlled by an integral "PID" regulator. The incorporation of additional pumps can be made depending on their efficiency, operating hours or a different characteristic.
Any pump can be removed for repair or maintenance by sending a signal to the controlling one to take it off the list during that time. The same can be done with the control pump, in which case another takes over its function. A maximum down time can be set for a pump to avoid it being blocked.
